Greater Toronto Airport Authority HVAC & Refrigerant Replacement

Kelson is the prime contractor for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) HVAC & Refrigerant replacement project. This project consists of the removal and replacement of 65 Roof Top Units (RTU’s). This is broken down into 44 RTU’s (Gas fired) and 26 Split System (Refrigerated) Units. The Areas of work are broken down into five areas:

Terminal 1 – Pier F Pods
Cargo 2
Central Workshops
Infield Terminal
Mechanical Systems
This project has very strict security requirements with the GTAA. This project is located at Pearson International Airport. A detailed safety plan was created for crane hoisting during the night for minimum disruption to pedestrian, vehicle, and air traffic. For RTU: Isolate & disconnect natural gas, electrical, duct work, prepare existing unit for hoisting and remove, prepare new unit and hoist into place, Reconnect services, Test & verify, Commissioning & Balancing. For Split System: Isolate & disconnect natural gas, electrical, duct work, Reclaim refrigerant, prepare existing unit for hoisting and remove, prepare new unit and hoist into place, Reconnect services, Charge system with refrigerant, Test & verify, Commissioning & Balancing.
