Algonquin College Co-generation
Completion: June 05, 2017
Location: Ottawa
Kelson served as the mechanical contractor for the Algonquin College Cogeneration Project, which involved the implementation of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility featuring a 2 MW natural gas–fired reciprocating engine with an absorption chiller. The system was installed within a new pre-engineered building and integrated with the college’s existing heating and cooling plant. The scope included the engine/generator skid with sound attenuation enclosure, heat recovery boiler, exhaust breeching, complete building HVAC systems, absorption chiller, pumps, cooling tower, dry coolers, air compressor, urea tank, and all associated heating, chilled water, condenser water, glycol, and natural gas piping. Kelson utilized 3D BIM for coordination and prefabricated piping offsite to meet the project’s aggressive schedule.Â
