Commencing in May 2009, Sanofi Pasteur, a pharmaceutical company specializing in the manufacturing of vaccines, entered into a water conservation project within Building B83. Existing room AC units and refrigerant compressors, serving remote refrigerators and freezers, were previously cooled by city domestic cold water which eventually went to drain. The contract involved the installation of chilled water branch piping to serve these compressors. The introduction of two way control valves allowed the building operator to switch from chilled water cooling to city water back up if the conditions warranted it. In all seventeen AC units and refrigerant compressors were converted to chilled water cooling as a building energy saving and water conservation program.

Mechanical Systems

Kelson acted as the General Contractor on this project responsible for all aspects of the construction. Critical scheduling took place to ensure that temperature sensitive experiments within the lab refrigerators were not compromised.
