Commencing in Sep 2008, Sanofi Pasteur, a pharmaceutical company specializing in the manufacturing of vaccines, decided to make improvements to their chilled water plant in building B92. Once completed, this work allowed operational flexibility of the chilled water systems in buildings B92 as well as Building B83. The chilled water plants in each of these buildings were now capable of serving and complimenting each other in terms of chiller and cooling tower operation. The contract involve the installation of interconnecting piping and the supply of additional secondary chilled water pumps within the first and second floor chiller plant in B92. pre-construction investigation and CAD drawing development allowed the majority of the 10” to 18” pipe to be fabricated off site. Tight work space and the extent of existing piping posed installation problems which were overcome by careful planning and execution.

Mechanical Systems

Kelson acted as the General Contractor on this project responsible for all aspects of the construction (electrical, thermal insulation, system balancing and building automation controls). A second floor window had to be removed temporary to allow hoisting of large diameter pipe spool pieces into the building. A major weekend shutdown was successfully orchestrated for the final tie-ins to the existing chilled water plant.
