This project involved the renovations within the basement and ground floor of the Morrow Wing of St. Joseph’s Hospital to provide a new haemodialysis treatment centre.

Mechanical Systems

Kelson mechanical highlights included: Mechanical room including 2 pumps, 2 heat exchangers, 1 air handler, and a return fan. Extensive HVAC and HVAC piping ceiling work including VAV’s, Reheat Coils, and Radiant Ceiling Panels. In addition to the new equipment installed in the mechanical room, Kelson tied in Phase 2 HVAC ductwork into an existing air handling unit, which continued to serve other areas during construction. Kelson also provided and coordinated the installation of new VFD’s for the existing AHU following all required IPAC procedures. At the St Joseph’s Hospital Renovation Project, there were multiple instances of asbestos-containing materials being found in areas of the building that were due to be renovated. Large amounts of old piping was insulated/built with ACM’s that had not been abated prior to work starting, so it had to be dealt with prior to demolition works proceeding. There were multiple cases where the time it took to properly remove the asbestos interfered with work flow on site and caused delays to the project schedule.Â
