Kelson served as the mechanical contractor for the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre Bundled HVAC Renovations, a series of coordinated upgrades spanning inmate housing units, administrative areas, and maintenance facilities. The project involved renovating and upgrading existing air-handling units (AHU), modernizing the building automation system, installing new heat exchangers for in-floor heating in the inmate cottages, and completing mechanical room AHU upgrades, recommissioning, and full facility air balancing. These improvements addressed the findings of a third-party study that identified widespread comfort issues related to heating and cooling, with the project’s objective focused on enhancing system performance and optimizing HVAC control strategies. All work was executed within a fully occupied, high-security facility, requiring provincial government security clearance and careful coordination to maintain operations without disruption.
