Q9 Networks Inc. is 40-10 TON A/C units in existing building renovations, and to facilitate the increased cooling capacity for the data centre functions. Working in an existing downtown high rise building within the operating guidelines of the building operator always poses alternate construction methods. With no as built drawings available, Kelson field measured the floor plans and then created spool modules in our prefabrication shop for after hour deliveries. This was the only way we could manage to stay on schedule while working in an occupied building being restricted to noise levels and smoke generation used during our welding procedures. Each system required 100% duplication and was independent of the base building operation system. Kelson was brought in as part of the team to assist in mechanical construction methods to allow for flexibility and provide cut off dates without jeopardizing the end date. We provided alternate methods of construction that would not take away from the flexibility that the customer required. With the sharing of ideas, all team members have a better understanding of the customers end requirements and we could all provide options for review. The computer room was a raised floor construction with many services that needed to be coordinated with the stands for the floor. Kelson had the largest services in the raised floor space and Kelson took it upon themselves to coordinate all the various trades to ensure that installation methods and requirements were met. Kelson created a CAD model on the raised floor with the necessary supports identified and plotted our CHW piping mains and identifying interference. This allowed the floor contractor to change the support detail in these areas in advance with no cost or schedule extensions. Without the use of our CAD department, the under floor coordination and installation would have been a costly and time consuming exercise.
