Ryerson University Satellite Research Laboratories at MaRS Centre is a research facility for the Faculty of Science’s Department of Chemistry and Biology.
The Lab facility features nearly 20,000 square feet of high-tech, collaborative laboratory space designed to support Ryerson faculty and graduate student researchers working in a broad range of disciplines, from microbiology to aquatic sciences to biochemistry and more.
Highlights of Ryerson’s new MaRS space include multiple research workstations, shared office space for principal researchers, wet- and dry-laboratory spaces, controlled environment rooms, radioisotope and tissue culture facilities and a well-appointed suite of technologies, instruments and equipment designed to support leading-edge scientific enquiry.
An important aspect of the project is its emphasis on creating collaborative spaces to foster shared exploration and synergy among the researchers working in different disciplines.Â
Mechanical Systems
Mechanical  Systems: Each floor is provided with perimeter hot water baseboard heating system. Each structural grid ( approx. 30 feet) is a temperature control zone.
Office and Lab space: This floor is provided with connection to a central, outdoor ventilation supply risers at two core locations. Outdoor air is filtered and pre-conditioned from BB to Ryerson space. The BAS will determine the optimal ventilation air temperature to minimized the Building’s energy consumption as a whole. This floor is also provided with connection to a central , general laboratory exhaust risers at three core locations. Laboratory exhaust risers are standard galvanized construction. Cooling is provided by the base building with chilled water piping connection at 11th floor.
Domestic water service has been provided by base building with valve connection for distribution to floors. As well natural gas, sanitary and vent connection as well as radio-isotope drainage are available by base building with one riser connection.
Control system has been integrated with base building BAS and it is based on BACnet IP protocol.
