Sanofi Pasteur Pharmaceutical B90 Diphtheria Production Suite Renovation
Completion: March 30, 2020
Location: North York
Size: 4,653 sq.ft
Description:
The project involved the renovation of an existing biosafety Level 2 Diphtheria production suite. The intent of the project was to improve HVAC control and reliability, in addition to making improvements to the functionality of the space. A significant extent of mechanical upgrades was required to facilitate these revisions. All new service distributions were provided within the production suite, as well as, associated equipment to support the mechanical system.
Mechanical Systems
Kelson mechanical highlights:
Replacement of the existing HVAC system; including provisions of new GMP air-handling unit and control system. The new GMP air-handling unit was a large multi-piece unit, which needed to be assembled onsite.Â
Extensive and detailed coordination required between consultants and trades to meet the design-intent of new HVAC duct and piping distribution to serve new air-handling unit, due to space constraints below the unit. Proposal made to modify services shown to meet constructability. Kelson worked with the project team to determine alternate routing of services, as well as, size of services to ensure design-intent could be met. Short timeline with significant amount of mechanical works was completed in a congested space, both within the production space, as well as, on the roof. As the facility is a GMP facility, Kelson was required to test and verify control-systems in great detail. We worked alongside the base-building controls contractor throughout the project to verify installation and functionality of the system, prior to engaging third-party reviewer.
