UOIT Software and Information Research Centre is a 4 Story Design Assist Project consisting of 80,000 sq. ft., with a short Schedule. It features flexible learning spaces featuring multiple seating configurations, room divisibility and the newest audio-visual technology.  Issued for gross maximum price proposal in 2 stages. 1 stage for the shell, 4 floors and MPH. Phase 2 for additional mechanical equipment and fit-out of floors 3 and 4.  The building consists of a combination of classroom space, office facilities for staff, and lab teaching space for data centre and computer programming.  The building is technologically advanced and supportive of a laptop based university.

Mechanical Systems

The mechanical design concepts adhere to Green principals and meets an energy target of 25% better than the Ashrae 90.1 Standard. The features include:i) Dedicated 100% outside air system which meters outside air to each space as required to meet room carbon dioxide limits based on occupancy and activity levels within the space.ii) Variable speed drives on pumps and air handling units to dynamically match motor output to actual load. iii) High efficiency condensing boilers. iv) High efficiency air cooled chillers. iv) Fan coil units complete with ECM motors for energy efficiency and noise considerations.v) High efficiency filtration systems. vi) Exhaust heat recovery using enthalpy wheels.vii) In row cooling with remote DX condenser serving the building’s data centre. viii) low water usage fixtures and toilets. Tight budget with extensive value engineering implemented in an occupied facility.
