Kelson completed the mechanical scope for the Orillia Courthouse and OPP Office conversion project, which involved replacing the existing steam system with high-efficiency condensing natural gas boilers—three units for the courthouse and two for the OPP facility. The work also included installing a new humidification system and a corresponding RO water system. As a 24/7 high-security, fully operational facility that houses both an active courthouse and an accommodation wing for new police recruits, the project required strict coordination and multiple provincial-level security clearances with the Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Public Service Security. Kelson maintained operations throughout construction, managing noise restrictions, hot-work permitting, and logistical challenges associated with working in an occupied environment. Due to seasonal constraints and delays in the adjacent natural gas supply project, Kelson provided temporary propane boilers and temporary heating to maintain building operations and meet the accelerated schedule ahead of the winter season. This complex conversion from steam to condensing natural gas boilers delivered significant efficiency improvements while navigating tight timelines and stringent operational requirements.
